A “paraphrase” of the plainchant Marian hymn Ave maris stella. Victoria often uses the plainchant melody as a cantus firmus and it results in some of his most elaborate 4-part writing. Unusually for Victoria, the Mass also features polytextuality in the first Osanna section, with the Tenors singing the first stanza of Ave maris stella as a cantus firmus against the other voices.
