Three books of Vivanco’s music were published in his lifetime. His first publication was a Book of Magnificats from 1607 containing 18 settings and is counted among some the finest Iberian polyphony of the Renaissance era. Vivanco frequently provides two alternate settings of the same verse to be used as desired. In this setting on the 6th tone, Vivanco writes two possible Gloria Patri verses. Both versions are given here, with the second 8-voice setting preferred in this edition. Here Vivanco paraphrases all 8 Magnificat tones simultaneously (super octo tonis, cum octo vocibus). The first setting for 6 voices is found in the Appendix and may be used as an alternative.
