A beautiful and succinct parody of a popular 16th century chanson. Lassus allows himself a little more polyphonic elaboration here than in some of his other 4-part Masses but the delivery of the text remains clear in line with Counter-Reformation ideals (even if using a secular model might have offended more zealous Catholic reformers). NB The Tenor may be sung by a mixture of Baritones and Tenors if desired.
