This ceremonial motet celebrates the brokering of the Truce of Nice by Pope Paul III between Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and Francis I of France in 1538. The Secundus Tenor sings a short 6-note Gaudeamus ostinato throughout (one of Morales’ favourite techniques) whilst the other voices extol the virtues of the three men and give thanks for the peace which has “descended from heaven”.
