A parody of Palestrina’s motet Tradent enim vos. Cardoso rescores the Mass from SATTB to SAATB and his characteristically “spicy” harmonic language of the late Portuguese era contrasts strongly with Palestrina’s style. The final Agnus Dei movement is particularly impressive. It is expanded to 6 voices, though only 4 are notated. Altus I and Tenor are both derived from Superius I with the Latin instruction Qui sequitur me via recta non ambulat in tenebris offering a clue to their realisation: Tenor is an inversion of Superius I at the 4th and Altus I is a canon of Superius I at the 5th omitting all black notation.
