This impressive Mass is based on a Compline antiphon and, despite being published in 1625, uses the old-fashioned technique of Cantus Firmus. It is most often heard in the Superius parts, though it appears in all voices across the whole Mass – even the Bass in the Christe. The final Agnus Dei features an impressive display of canonical writing. Only 4 of the 6 voices are notated: Tenor II sings Superius I an octave lower whilst the Altus sings only the Breves of Superius I, forming the melody of the antiphon Cantus Firmus.
