A short and lively setting of the Eastertide Marian antiphon which, unusually, is based on a Spanish plainchant melody, not the more familiar Roman melody. Whilst the Roman melody sounds bright and “major” to modern ears, the prevailing mode in Esquivel’s setting is more “minor” with a distinctly spicier sound world.
