This complete setting of Psalm 130 is one of Clemens longest motets. A middle trio is framed by two grand tutti sections which explore a wide range of sonorities and expressions. For example, the Flemish interest in sequential writing (with little concern for clarity of text setting) is contrasted against short homophonic interjections as Clemens highlights the Psalmist’s plea for mercy.
