Uniquely, this motet combines the texts of both the 4th and 3rd Matins Responsorys for Christmas Day. The opening chords create a sense of wonder and mystery and Palestrina shows his mastery of Counter-Reformation polyphonic ideals by often delivering the text homophonically and saving melismas until the ends of the phrase.
