A contrafactum of Monteverdi’s madrigal Era l’anima mia arranged by Aquilino Coppini. The new text (which is based upon the Stabat mater poem) is constructed skilfully and sensitively so as to preserve Monteverdi’s exemplary rhetoric. Pitch in Monteverdi’s day was almost certainly one semitone higher than ours today and modern performers are encouraged to adopt this where possible. Directors may also wish to assign the Quinto part to a mixture of Tenors and Altos at specific moments or throughout.
