A contrafactum of Monteverdi’s madrigal Ma tu più che mai dura arranged by Aquilino Coppini. The new text is constructed skilfully and sensitively so as to preserve Monteverdi’s exemplary rhetoric – as seen in bar 2 with the treatment of the word durum. Pitch in Monteverdi’s day was almost certainly one semitone higher than ours today and modern performers are encouraged to adopt this where possible.
