A contrafactum of Monteverdi’s madrigal Ferir quel petto, Silvio arranged by Aquilino Coppini. The new Latin text is heavily based upon the Song of Songs and Monteverdi’s expressive music is well-suited to the sensual subject matter. This edition has been transposed down a perfect 4th in accordance with the clef combination. Pitch in Monteverdi’s day was almost certainly one semitone higher than ours today and modern performers are encouraged to adopt this where possible.
