A simple 4-part Mass from Monteverdi’s posthumous Messa, salmi concertati e parte da capella… collection of 1650. A simple Continuo part is included in the source, but the Mass can also be performed unaccompanied (Monteverdi’s sparse figuring has been supplemented by editorial figures but Basso Continuo players may also wish to supply their own figuring). This edition has been transposed down a perfect 4th in accordance with the clef combination. Pitch in Monteverdi’s day was almost certainly one semitone higher than ours today and modern performers are encouraged to adopt this where possible.
