A paraphrase Mass based on the opening phrase of an antiphon for the Feast of Ss Peter and Paul. Esquivel may have been written this Mass in honour of his Patron, Pedro Ponce de León (to whom the publication is dedicated), and was perhaps inspired by Morales’s Missa Tu es vas electionis, dedicated to Pope Paul III. The original chant phrase is often heard as an ostinato (complete with original text) which then forms part of a double canon in the final Agnus Dei movement.
