This attractive parody of a motet for the Feast of St Dominic by Guerrero was probably written by Esquivel in honour of his patron, Don Pedro Ponce de León, who was a Dominican. The Dominican order prided itself on learning and study and Esquivel references this in the Osanna (typically the most joyful movement of a Mass) by his simultaneous use of 4 different proportional signs and two unrealised canons.
