Following the Missa Pro Defunctis in his 1608 publication, Esquivel included this short motet for the Office of the Dead. It has been suggested that it may have been written for a specific funeral, since the text translates as May the angels lead him into paradise… rather than the more common …lead you into paradise Superius II sings a short ostinato with the words Requiescat in pace.
